BSA Drives USD$2M Legalization to Member in China

In September 2021, BSA received a lead from a member regarding the infringement of a high volume of software by a company in China’s Zhejiang Province. Following BSA’s meticulous investigation and filing of the case with the Hangzhou Intermediate Court, a successful evidence preservation procedure revealed extensive infringement. Then, while litigating the subsequent copyright infringement action in court, BSA worked diligently with the member to negotiate a settlement. In late December 2022, the case settled, with the company agreeing to purchase nearly USD$2 million in member company software to legalize its infringing use.
