BSA Holds Software Legalization Campaign Event in Malaysia

Last week, as part of BSA’s new “Unlock Potential, Use Genuine” education campaign in Southeast Asia, Tarun Sawney, BSA’s Senior Director, APAC, briefed Malaysian journalists and press outlets on BSA’s efforts to work with governments and design/engineering firms in Malaysia to encourage the usage of licensed software and sound asset management practices, which studies have shown are critical in defending against cyberattacks. Tarun focused particularly on software that will be used in developing upcoming major government-funded infrastructure projects. The Malaysian Secretary General of Ministry of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs also attended the briefing, delivering remarks in support of BSA’s initiatives and stating that a precondition for any company hoping to work on design or engineering for national infrastructure is the procurement of 100% licensed software assets. This briefing was BSA’s 4th in the region since the campaign launched in July. In addition to engaging with media and policymakers, BSA is reaching out directly to 5000 engineering and design companies in Malaysia to discuss the importance of license compliance.
