Adam Coates leads BSA’s domestic and international compliance solutions programs, including end-user copyright enforcement, educational programs to promote software license compliance and respect for intellectual property, and BSA’s efforts to prevent the spread of unlicensed and malware-infected software on the Internet. As general counsel, Coates oversees BSA’s and its affiliates’ worldwide legal, corporate, and compliance affairs. Previously at BSA, Coates served as deputy general counsel and helped drive significant operational improvements in BSA’s compliance & enforcement programs worldwide.
Prior to joining BSA in 2011, Coates was a litigator in the Washington, DC office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, an internationally prominent law firm, representing and counseling clients around the world on a diverse array of litigation, enforcement, and regulatory compliance matters.
Coates holds both a law degree and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania and is admitted to the bars of the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is based in BSA’s Washington, DC office.
